The Safety Consultation and Training Section recently recognized the Reno-based mechanical contractor, (RHP) Ray Heating Products, Inc. (dba RHP Mechanical Systems), for successful renewal of the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). RHP Mechanical Systems has received the SHARP award for the past five years for excellence in workplace health and safety.
“The SHARP program has helped RHP Mechanical Systems increase our employee’s involvement in our safety program and culture,” said Eric Scolari, Risk Manager at RHP. “The partnership with SCATS is vital to our success.”
RHP maintains a fully automated sheet metal and pipe fabrication facility with more than 20,000 square feet of fabrication shop and 25,000 square feet of office and dry storage. The company’s HVAC sheet metal fabrication includes computer-operated plasma cutting machines, coil line, and pneumatic forming equipment. RHP has capabilities to fabricate sheet metal and pipe in galvanized iron, black iron, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, bronze and various customized brackets, hangers, angles, supports, and more. The company permanently maintains a work force of roughly 150 commercial and industrial tradesmen.
RHP Mechanical Systems is part of an elite group of businesses that have successfully entered the SHARP program by maintaining exemplary safety and health protocol. Participation in the no-cost program is designed to provide incentives and support to employers to develop, implement and continuously improve safety and health programs at their worksite(s). By taking these proactive measures, businesses can reduce accident costs and ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations.
“RHP has been a SHARP award recipient for years,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS. “The company’s dedication to keeping their employees safe and healthy at work is exemplary. This SHARP award continues to reinforce their commitment to safety.”
SCATS consultants provide employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, program implementation assistance and training. Employers who implement effective safety and health programs and have a days away restricted transfer (DART) rate below the national average for their industry group may be recognized by SCATS. Successful SHARP participants receive a three-year exemption from OSHA’s general schedule inspections.
