The news is filled with workplace violence incidences on an all too regular basis. Preparing for an emergency in the workplace is a daunting task, but thorough planning and training can be the difference between life and death if an emergency happens at your business.
According to the National Safety Council, each year, 2 million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2016 data states that fatal work injuries involving violence and other injuries by persons or animals increased by 163 cases to 866 in 2016. Workplace homicides increased by 83 cases to 500 in 2016, and workplace suicides increased by 62 to 291. This is the highest homicide figure since 2010 and the most suicides since Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) began reporting data in 1992. Workplace violence can happen anywhere and at any time, without warning. Understanding workplace violence and having a thorough plan in place is vital to help keep your employees, customers and the public safe. And this is where SCATS comes in to help.
