SCATS to offer additional free Spanish language safety and health training courses leading up to Nevada Hispanic Safety Month in April

For the fifteenth consecutive year, SCATS will focus on increasing workplace safety among Nevada’s Hispanic workforce during their Hispanic Safety Month in April. Safety on the job continues to be important for the Nevada workforce and employers. Extending resources and training to the increasing Hispanic workforce in Nevada is crucial. To help promote workplace safety for all, SCATS continues to highlight and support the well-being of Nevada’s Hispanic workforce.

During the month of April, SCATS will offer additional free Spanish language safety and health training courses at their offices in Las Vegas and will also manage a booth at the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas to expand support for Nevada’s Hispanic workforce. And this year, leading up to April, SCATS will also offer extra free Spanish language safety and health training courses in March as well.

“At SCATS, we want to protect all of Nevada’s workers, regardless of ethnicity, which is why we offer ongoing Spanish training resources and materials,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS. “Throughout the month of April, we specifically focus on Nevada’s increasing Hispanic workforce.”

The Hispanic workforce in the United States experiences a high number of injuries and fatalities on the job. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports fatal work injuries involving Hispanic or Latino workers have the second highest number of fatalities, after the Caucasian workforce. This number could be understated because many Hispanic worker injuries are often not reported.

SCATS offers Spanish speaking assistance and free on-site safety and health consultation services for businesses in Nevada. These services focus on hazard identification and preventing injuries and illnesses. Spanish speaking assistance can be made available for these services if needed. SCATS also has established a free of charge, video lending library with hundreds of safety and health videos in English and Spanish on a variety of safety and health topics that are available for employers to borrow.
